History Boat rental L. van der Pol

Halfway through the seventies, the then 25-year-old Lieuwe van der Pol started renting out four wooden 16m2s.

When he took over a rental fleet of 10 wooden cabin sailboats in 1979, the rental company started to become serious. He moved to the old police harbour at the Oude Oppenhuizerweg in Sneek. There was no office yet at the marina, so the formalities took place in an orange Volkswagen t2 van.

After six successful years of renting out boats, the company expanded to the neighbouring building at the Oude Oppenhuizerweg in 1985. In that year, the fleet was also expanded with the first polyester yachts. Good years followed. The fleet was expanding and increasingly more modern. In 1991, the first 16m2s made way for the more modern Polyvalk and in 1993 the first brand new sailing yachts were purchased.

In the years between 1985 and 1999, the company grew a lot and became too big for its current location. In 2000, a new company building was built with plenty of parking space and a marina with 50 berths. In 2004, son Jappie van der Pol entered the business and started working on the future of the rental company. Nowadays, we are one of the most modern boat rental companies of this time. With a modern, well-maintained fleet and full-service facilities, we are able to cater perfectly to our guests’ need. But like time, we never stand still!
